1. trim the lace
When you first receive your wig, you will notice there is excess lace
around the perimeter. This will need to be trimmed off. Position the
wig hairline in front of your own actual hairline so you don't have to
worry about the adhesive touching your hair. If no hairline is present,
place wig where you would like hairline to begin. Once you are
satisfied with the matching of the wig and your hairline, trim the lace
back to the hairline and match it with your own hairline to ensure a
natural appearance.
Be extremely careful, as you will need to trim the lace as close to
the hairline as possible without cutting any of the wig hair. If you
are in-experienced at this, just cut the lace back a little bit at a
time until you are comfortable.
2. wear a wig cap
Pull hair back tightly into a flat look, loose ponytail and place wig
cap on top, to securely hold hair in place so no wisps are showing. If there is no hair present you would not need a cap.
3. prepare your scalp
First clean your scalp area around the perimeter of where the attachment will be made, an alcohol swab is best as it helps to remove any oil
that may be on your skin, wait until completely dry. To help aid into
the protection of your skin apply, Scalp Protector all around your
hairline where the adhesive will be applied.
The scalp protector (available in our starter kit range)
protects your skin by creating a barrier between your skin and the
adhesive. It also helps to keep skin oils at bay (oily skin weakens the
bond of the adhesives and prevents the strongest hold). Allow the Scalp
Protector to dry completely before applying the adhesive.
Adhesive
Chiquel offers various types of liquid adhesives with different bonding
agents. For everyday use we recommend, Mity tite as it is ideal for
short term wear. For extreme hold, Safe grip is the
ideal choice. Use liquid adhesive very sparingly as a little goes a
long way.
Depending on which adhesive you choose to use, it may come with an
application brush or dab on. Please see starter kits for all adhesives available.
1. Apply a thin coat of adhesive around the perimeter of your head right
below your hairline. If no hair, apply where you would like you
hairline to begin. If you're using a brush, paint in both directions -
horizontal and vertical. Use a cool blow dryer for about 30-45 seconds
to dry the glue until it's tacky/sticky.
2. Once the adhesive is tacky, it is then time to apply the wig. (It
is very important to make sure that the adhesive is very tacky/sticky
before you apply your lace wig because if it is not the wig may lift)
3. Starting with the front hairline, press the lace wig unit and glued
area together and apply constant pressure until the unit stays by
itself. This may take a minute or longer, but be patient. Repeat the
steps for your nape and sides. Before you style the wig please wait 15
minutes to allow the glue to adhere and completely dry.
These are the basic steps that you will take regardless of what type of
liquid adhesive you use. You will develop your own application
techniques with practice.
Our lace front support tape is made specifically for lace front wigs,
it's the strongest, most durable lace tape there is on the market
today. It dries completely clear and bonds the lace directly to the
scalp. It can be used around the entire perimeter for an incredible
hold on the lace, skin or hair. Lace front support tape can be used
daily or can hold for up to two weeks. This extreme hold allows you to
swim, shower and endure exercises without the fear of lifting. This tape is sticky on both sides.
1. To use, basically peel one side of
the tape to expose the adhesive and apply a layer to your skin around
the perimeter of your head below the hairline. It is important to leave
small spaces between the tape to allow for water to escape, if you will
be wearing this for extended periods of time.
2. You will then put the lace wig on your head and position it so that the
perimeter edge of the wig lines up with edge of the tape. If you have
not done so already you will want to pin the wig hair up so that loose
hair does not get in the way during the attachment process.
3.
Once the wig hair is pinned up and out of the way peel the tape backing
off to reveal the adhesive. Beginning with the front
hairline, proceed
to attach the wig by pressing and holding it to the adhesive
for 30
seconds to a minute. Repeat the steps for your nape and
sides. For secured fit place a head band around entire perimeter for
approx 15 minutes to keep lace front wig firmly in place.
For extreme hold and secure, using a combination of both tape and
adhesive would be the best option. When using both holds, the adhesive
should go on your skin and the tape should go on the lace. This will
protect the lace from the wear and tear of the liquid adhesives. Please
check our lace front wig starter kits for more information.
Removal
C-22 adhesive remover and Lace Release will assist in removing your
unit. Spray C-22 generously and allow the glue remover to work. Do not
pull or tug the lace, it will damage your lace and your hair. Alternate
between using C-22 and Lace Release to remove your lace. Do not pull
the lace or attempt to force it off, or you may damage your skin and
the lace.
You should be able to roll the excess glue off of your skin
and wig once the remover as set. It is very important to allow the
adhesive remover to completely saturate and the lace to release prior
to trying to remove the unit. This will preserve the lace on your unit
and your hairline. Please take your time while doing this.
*If there is still left over adhesive or tape residue, the use of pure acetone will lift the product from the lace. Place pure acetone in a bowl, then only the lace of which the build up of residue is, gentle place in the bowl. Leave the piece in the acetone for 5-10 mins and repeat around perimeter of piece. Then with a towel in a slow gentle motion rub against the lace. This will left up all leftover residue.
Clean and maintain
Learning how to properly care
for your lace wig will allow you to enjoy the unit for much longer.
If necessary you may shampoo your lace front while wearing it. You just want to be
sure you are very gentle while doing so. Focus on getting the hair
strands clean, do not massage as you would your own hair. Please use
high quality shampoo and conditioner. Once finished, gently towel dry
hair and let out to be aired dry or if using a hair dryer set on low to
medium heat.
Make sure your adhesive is waterproof before proceeding.
Tip: We recommend washing your unit
once every two weeks to avoid excess wear on lace and hair. You can use
a dry shampoo in between washings to remove excess product build up.
